Back to Normal [Local Folk Songs]

Local Folk Songs Today Three Drunken Maidens.

Back to normal, hopefully. No more hospital posts, [maybe the odd small update] but for now normal posts. Today I take you back to my local folk songs.

The Three Drunken Maidens, is an old song based on the Isle of Wight. Which is by the way a short Ferry ride across the Solent. From Lymington it would be by car ferry about 45 minutes or from Southampton which you choose, a car ferry is an hour or the Hydrofoil is 30 minutes.

I chosen two versions, which are quite different. The second is by a very well-known female singer. Maddy Prior was very popular and mostly known for her singing with the folk style band Steelye Span. As well as other folk style bands. She, in my mind, has one of the best voices. I wonder if you agree!

Keep a watch out for my Brocks Music Shed, I am to do a post on her and her music shortly.

  1. Yes, I love Steeleye Span. I have an album of theirs with ‘All around my hat’, which I bought after hearing it played in a shop. You’ve sent me looking for it in my CD collection. I enjoyed listening to both these versions of 3 Drunken Maidens. Thanks.

    1. Trish it makes these posts worth doing when people enjoy the music I put up. They were one of my faves at time because I was also gigging in folk clubs. All around my Hat was very popular… and am about to post Maddy Prior on my Brocks Music Shed blog. hope you enjoy.. thank so much welcome.. 😉

  2. Oh my, poor Isle of Wight! With all the stories of smuggling that is supposed to have happened there and now this, they do have a shady reputation, don’t they? But it’s great to see your posts again.

    1. Yey Sandra, yes IOW has a lot of history, smuggling and smugglers and castles and royalty deaths… It is good to start again, must try to get back into the ideas and regular postings… Welcome and thank you. 😉
